2040: The NEW FUTURE!

Background Info:
In current year 2040, there are a lot more exciting things than year 2010 (as I have read in my history textbook). Women president-there have been five already, except that this year the woman president happens to be particularly strange. She is an alien! Aliens have been fighting for equal rights for the past twenty five years now, and society gave in. We cannot help but smile at those cute googly bulging eyes of those green creatures. As for typical vacations for affluent families, they happen to travel to which ever planet they want every so often. Planet Neptune is like the new Italy or Cabo; there are so many resorts to choose from. I have yet to visit Mars, because it is one of the more high-end planets and it is exclusive. Computers are non-existent. If you have to write something down there are holograms for that (it can easily read and translate your thoughts) and that is what most people use today. Teleporting is the main method of transportation, therefore pollution is out of the question for that department. We receive energy for electronic purposes through solar-powered systems; although we barely have any electronics, everything is through holograph. There are no more fast food restaurants they are considered dangerous. All species are living in peace and harmony, everyone and everything has finally adapted to one another. Everything is very positive, including the energy (pun intended).
Average Day:
There is no such thing as waking up or going to sleep, humans had a chip implanted onto their brain stem that has been programmed to operate forever. Time is just consisted of numbers; year 2040 does not run by time. When you have to be somewhere at some "time" you just imagine yourself there and use teleport. School can go as fast as you want or as slow as you want, if you miss a class you get an amount of 3 chances to go back in time and be "present." Food is healthier and tastier than ever! Technology is all about holograms. Oh and you can make a mini hologram of yourself and they attend class for you and do all your work, except that they charge a ridiculous amount of money. Once you are in class (if you decide to go) you lay inside this "sleeping chamber" much like a tanning bed, and close your eyes, much like imagining yourself asleep, and listen to what your professor lectures through these tiny speakers (hypnosis occurs to make you unconscious and that is how you learn). Examinations consist of reciting everything you have ever heard your professor say, but there are easy ways to pass these exams. Clothes are all neon/fluorescent colored. School lasts up to 5 days, however, it feels like only 2 hours. After school you go back to your normal routine and do not have to go back to school until 3 days later. In the sleeping chamber you learn a lecture each day from each class. Right after school you can teleport yourself to work. I work in Australia.

"The Internet: A Clear and Present Danger?"

Cleaver shed some light about how utilizing the Internet itself is not violating civil liberties, however, mentioned how some illegal conduct can be done while using the Internet. Cleaver believes that the Internet, although is meant for mostly good and the prospect future of civilization, is also a present danger that has a snowball affect if the situation is not administered appropriately and regulated. Cleaver supports this essay by including how the Internet poses the biggest threat yet, to adolescents because of pornographic sites that are very accessible. Cleaver believes that Internet is a valuable resource only when it is "placed at the service of humanity and when it promotes our integral development for the benefit of all," I definitely agree with Cleaver on this. I also agree with the list that violates our civil liberties in the opening of her essay; it truly is a violation because the Internet is seen as a trusted network where all kinds of transactions are made. Cleaver's list in the beginning is an effective way of introducing the topic of her essay and grasping the reader's attention because it demonstrates weather the Internet really is regulated and a 'safe place' for people to conduct their businesses and/or whereabouts, and what age group really has access to the Internet.

Iron Man 2

This movie will be released on May 7, 2010.
Iron Man 2's visual and audio features will blow your mind! It is the sequel to Iron Man, however with more force and action taking place. Plenty of action/fighting scenes with superhero against tainted villain, takes place. A man that casts himself in an iron robotic suit and has an assailant that also has an iron armor that is composed of state of the art high technology, and both men battle it out, due to the threat the assailant poses. The protagonist and original Iron Man portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., faces many challenges during the movie as the U S government wants him to give up his Iron Man suit, however he is uncooperative and very determined to not give it up. Iron Man faces many struggles throughout the movie and finds himself in a couple of life-threatening predicaments.
Middle-aged people would enjoy this action/adventure movie because it is the sequel to the first successful Iron Man, and this movie would definitely fulfill their cravings for seeing the classic Marvel-type action hero in distress and the contending villain. With special effects added into the movie such as high-surround system quality and improved visual features, and plenty of action filled scenes, this movie will captivate your attention all 117 minutes long.

Shutter Island Trailer (Blog 4)

Shutter Island is definitely a movie worth watching! The noteworthy actors in the movie did a great job at portraying their roles. Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a U.S. Marshal assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient at a mental hospital for the criminally insane. Daniels soon suspects and questions the hospital and his partner because of their lack of help in the investigation. Daniels believes that they have lured him onto the Island as part of a twisted plot. After a hurricane hits Shutter Island there is a loss of communication and that is when Daniels fears for his own sanity, has extreme hallucinations and dreams that seem lifelike, and the movie begins to unravel bits and pieces to lead to the rest of this psychological thriller. Not to mention the big surprise at the end that catches everyone off guard makes the movie worthwhile.
At first viewers do not know what kind of movie to expect, whether it is a thriller or a horror movie. Shutter Island will get you going with all the mystery it contains. As the movie progresses, the viewer still is clueless as to what is happening or going to happen, however, all the suspense will keep you yearning for more.

"Security versus Civil Liberties" Question #3

According to Posner, why do the lessons of history confirm his position that we need heightened security at the expense of liberties in times when our nation is at grave risk? Explain why you agree or disagree with Posner's point of view.
Posner believes that it is a mistake balancing liberty and security, and that according to previous national threats we should learn from them and improve our nation's security and abridge our civil liberties when times of crisis occur due to criminal activities. "It is because officials have repeatedly and disastrously underestimated these dangers that our history is violent as it is," Posner stated. Posner uses the examples of history such as, what led to the Civil War, Japanese attack on the US that led to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba, political assassinations, and the events of September 11 to emphasize that we underestimated the majority of these dangers and life-altering events. Posner reiterates throughout the essay that the basic mistake is prioritizing liberties instead of national security, and a way we could increase national security is at our liberties' expense. Posner feels that the safer a nation is the more leeway on liberties judges will give to citizens and the greater the threat there is to the nation's security the greater the cost for some liberties.
I do not agree with what Posner proposes for a slight increase on the nation's security. In other words Posner is trying to say that freedom and some of our liberties is a privilege not a right, when it is the other way around and set in stone. I believe that the government to some extent does have a lot of hindsight on particular tragedies and events, however citizens should not be the ones to suffer and have their rights limited when they are not doing their jobs correctly. Posner does bring some good points on how the government should be a little more aware and execute appropriate actions when things have gone awry. Citizens shouldn't have to give up their liberties, because of some concern of national security. Usually the perpetrators do not go very far and are caught quite easily, why not continue with this same system.

Evolving Opportunites: Part Two

After WWII, Immokalee began to flourish with its cultural and economic change. An agricultural expansion caused a demand for workers. Soon after, many people from other states and countries began to locate here for job and farming opportunities as the market expansion emerged. During WWII oil was in high demand as well, petroleum was then founded south of Immokalee and production followed in the late 1960's, that is still up and running today. The Seminoles did not fall too behind, they as well opened up a gambling casino. Many people saw it as a positive addition. I believe it is comparable to farming in an entrepreneurship way, because it is also helping Immokalees growth today. With Immokalee's vast employment opportunities, promotion from agricultural-based to industrial-based commodities, and ongoing additions to this community, has entered Immokalee to a new evolved era.

Outposts of Opportunity: Part One

In the video it describes the Seminole Indians that migrated from northern Florida to Immokalee to escape the cold winters and arrive to a swampy location. The Indians much like the "entrepreneur pioneers" that also arrived to Immokalee, shortly after, had the same desire. That desire was to hunt and establish a new home and thriving community. After the civil wars the remaining Seminole Indians began trade with European pioneers and developing amiable relationships with them. This video definitely demonstrates the "old" American dream, when settlers first had to work hard for what they earned, whether respect or property, and everyone had to be the "same" in order to be successful. Immokalee is not much different from where I grew up, Kissimmee, because its early settlers had the same notion when first stumbling upon it. To raise cattle and begin farming industries, I believe, was the main goal. Kissimmee and Immokalee had the same idealistic purposes when they were founded. However, now like most cities throughout Florida, Immokalee is growing rapidly and vast industries in the area are forming to provide its consumers with large quantities of amenities. Immokalee had and still has a lot going for it, so it will be very successful in ten years, welcoming thousands more inhabitants.
